Violet Prophet opens with a spectral, crisp clarity, where the sharp, spicy whisper of star anise converges with the gin-like sparkle of juniper and the delicate, breathy musk of mallow. At its heart, the composition shifts into a shadowed elegance; a velvet-textured iris is draped in the warmth of clove, while a soft, supple leather edge provides an ancient, intimate weight. As the scent matures on the skin, it leaves a lingering trail of sacred incense, resinous agarwood, and the earthy, grounded depth of vetiver. A haunting, multidimensional presence that commands attention through quiet confidence. An enigmatic, timeless allure, bottled.

This is a dry, dusty iris one might find in a shrinking pool of hot, sandy water left in a wadi in deserts of Nazareth. Which, of course, is the inspiration. It reminds me of Serge Luten’s great (but insanely expensive) Iris Silver Mist; both have a pure iris with not much else (maybe a touch of incense in this one), but Iris Silver Mist has cold, metallic overtones, that this replaces with slightly bitter, green overtones. If you are looking for a slightly sweet iris, like Dior’s Homme Intense or Prada’s l’Homme Intense, (or even further into sweetness, Givenchy’s Gentlemen) you are in the wrong place. Matt’s version of Iris Nazarena is dry and vegetal, like orris roots buried deep under desert sand, which is what makes it so good. I took off one star only because it lacks longetivity on my skin. I’d love to smell this for a full workday, but at this price, a refresher after a few hours is quite reasonable. I’m surprised because generally iris acts as a fixative, but in this perfume it lasts only as long as a citrus.
